Austrian pavilion @ the Venice Biennale, 2009

Elke Krystufek, Taboo
This work wins the prize for worst, absolute worst, art I've seen a in a long time. It looks like it was done by an angsty 12-year-old girl. I can't believe she was one of four people chosen to represent the entire country of Austria.

  1. I think it is beautiful. The mess of it all, the color, the message. Just look at the depth in their faces. The languid brushstrokes, layering of lines in moody browns, reds and greens. Her exploration of social taboos, portraiture and narcissism. I'm a sophomore in college and I still see all of this. Come on look a little deeper, you're supposed to have a BFA.

  2. Guess we just have different taste, because I still think it looks like someone vomited their middle school diary all over the gallery walls. I do appreciate the counterpoint though, thanks for posting your comment.
